Horizon Academy West - Cross Over Ramp

Ramp Cross Over: An on-campus sports field is located across the street from the main campus building. In order to access the field, students must cross the street and also cross the campus’s main drainage ditch. STOVEN worked side by side with the architect to design a handicap accessible ramp system for all children to safely access the field. The project includes modification to existing curb and gutter systems for wheel chair access, a cross walk, new concrete ramps, structural stem walls, custom handrails, and minor site work to accommodate the existing drainage system.

Stairs: A steep grassy knoll on campus separates a lower classroom building from an upper playground. In order for the children to access the playground, they must walk up the grass (often wet and slippery) or trek around the grass area on the side walk which takes about 2 minutes. STOVEN was challenged with the task to add a set of stairs with a handrail so the students could safely access the upper playground in a timely manner. The stairs include an upper and lower landing area.
